1. You can edit the "Welcome" section thru LAYOUT -> EDIT HTML then search for this:

<div id="welcome"><div>Hello! you can edit this text by going to layout and edit html. search for welcome.</div></div>
2. You should add at least 3 items on the sidebar so that the background won't be cropped.
